Porcelain Veneers
Dental veneers are very thin coverings made of porcelain or dental filling material - imagine a false fingernail - which are glued to the surface of a tooth. They make a tooth look like new and can also be used to straighten teeth, avoiding the necessity for expensive orthodontic treatment, such as braces. To assess what veneers might look like it is an easy process to perform a mock-up first.
The front surface of the tooth may need to be filed down slightly to make room for the veneer so that the new teeth, when covered, do not stick out too much. Although we can provide micro-thin veneers which require no tooth preparation whatsoever. If cosmetic considerations require temporary coverings in the meantime this can be easily done.
The procedure involves two appointments - the first, at which we file the teeth, if necessary, and take an impression for the laboratory, and the second, two weeks later when we fit them.
Porcelain veneers are very durable but are prone to damage just as normal teeth are. And because they are glued to the front of the teeth it is advisable to avoid any crunchy foods.
